This book was average to read.

Eragon is hunting and he finds a mysterious stone. The stone turns into a dragon that Eragon has a mental link to. Eragon’s house is soon burnt down by two mysterious men in cloaks, killing his uncle/guardian. Eragon flees with an old storyteller and his dragon, now named Saphira. They wander for many days pursuing Eragon’s uncle’s killer. They encounter human like beasts that are destoying towns for no apparent reason. Eragon is taught how to use magic from the old storyteller named Brom. Brom tells Eragon that Eragon is a Rider, the only other known living Rider is the evil king of their country. The two mysterious men in cloaks ambush Eragon and Brom, who are saved by a mysterious teen named Murtagh. Brom is injured and dies soon afterward. Brom tells Eragon in his last breath that he used to be a Rider until his dragon was slain by the king. Eragon gets imprisoned, but with the help of Murtagh he escapes now with an unconscious elf. The elf mentally tells Eragon where to find an opposition to the empire called The Varden. He finds them but soon afterwards a large group of beasts who Eragon now knows are serving the king find a way to raid The Varden through underground tunnels. The elf is now conscious and ready to fight which was very good for The Varden because the elf was a great fighter that could also use magic. Murtagh tells Eragon that his father was a traitor of the riders and helped kill most of them. The Varden have a war against the beasts and they win, but many of The Varden’s men are slaughtered in the attack. Eragon knows the end of his career as a Rider isn’t over, but that ends the book.

A  favorite highlight of mine from the book was The Prologue where a shade ambushes an elf transporting (I didn’t know this then) Saphira’s egg. I like this part because it has a lot of great detail and action, and it gives a  fantastic explanation (later in the book)  of how Saphira’s egg got to Eragon.

I rate Eragon a 5.                                                                                                                         This was one of my favorite books ever!!!!
